Damascus-Italy economic talks

Officials from the Damascus Chamber of Industry met Italy's ambassador and trade commissioner to explore ways to strengthen industrial and commercial cooperation, focusing on reconnecting exporters and importers in sectors such as textiles, yarn and ready-made garments. The chamber highlighted the prevalent use of Italian production lines in Syrian factories and is preparing a list of active factories to facilitate direct business contact between the two countries’ private sectors.

Participants reviewed obstacles facing Italian companies in Syria and proposed practical measures to ease trade, including direct commercial contracts without intermediaries, advance cash payments, and improved financial transfer channels. Plans discussed include a banks-and-institutions roundtable to resolve banking challenges, streamlined visa procedures for business and academic visits, and reactivating the Syrian-Italian Joint Business Council to boost investment and trade links, as reported by SANA
