New digital library and AI center for Damascus University

Damascus University signed two cooperation agreements with the Said Development Foundation to create an international-standard smart digital library on campus and to establish an artificial intelligence center at the Informatics Engineering Faculty. The library will be housed in a new building fitted with modern computers and networking equipment and is expected to be completed within three years. The AI center is intended to support research and teaching across engineering, basic sciences, medicine and the humanities, and will include specialized AI-powered software for researchers.

Wafiq Rida Said, president of the Said Development Foundation, said the agreements will advance education and scientific research and honor his late father’s legacy. Deputy Minister of Higher Education Abdul Hamid al-Khaled described the deals as part of a broader effort to modernize curricula and integrate AI into academic programs, while Damascus University’s rector, Dr. Mustafa Sa’im al-Dahr, thanked the foundation for its support. The Said Foundation, founded in 1984, is a non-profit that provides fully funded master’s scholarships through partnerships with UK universities for students from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine, as reported by SANA
