The Public Drinking Water and Sanitation Establishment in Latakia, in partnership with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), has completed rehabilitation and returned al-Qalamoun water station to service after years of shutdown. The restoration is expected to provide stable drinking water to nearly 20,000 residents across nine villages in rural Latakia and to ease pressure on the al-Sin spring and the al-Jouba–Istamo supply axis.
Project details and impact
Officials said the work involved rebuilding the station room, restoring the main reservoir, installing two new pumps (each 18 cubic meters per hour with a 235-meter lift), laying a new 2,400-meter polyethylene transmission line, and fitting electrical systems including a transformer, diesel generator, and control panels. Mahmoud Amouri of the General Water Administration and Abdel Khaleq Diab, director general of the Latakia water establishment, noted that the project was extended by field and weather challenges in the mountainous area but will diversify local water sources and improve supply to nearby villages and irrigated areas. as reported by Enab Baladi
