Syrian authorities said they foiled an attempt to smuggle a shipment of weapons and ammunition from the western province of Tartus into Lebanon. State news agency SANA reported that the Internal Security Forces in Tartus, working with the General Intelligence Service, carried out a joint operation that seized the entire consignment, which included automatic rifles, RPG rounds, weapons magazines and various types of ammunition.
Officials framed the raid as part of the new administration's efforts to restore security, consolidate state control and aid the country's recovery after years of conflict; the report also referenced recent political upheaval in Damascus. as reported by Anadolu Agency
