Civil defence activity and emergency response
Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management said civil defence teams handled more than 135,000 emergency and humanitarian needs in 2025, including over 11,000 fires (about 3,000 in homes and 2,500 in forests and agricultural areas). Search-and-rescue units saved 350 people and responded to more than 270 rescue calls, while ambulance crews managed over 100,000 emergency cases. Two civil defence members were killed while fighting fires.
Clearance, recovery and community work
Teams removed more than 270 unexploded ordnance and conducted 1,100 awareness sessions reaching roughly 25,000 people; two volunteers were killed during explosive-remnant clearance operations. The civil defence reported providing over 18,000 direct services, clearing more than 540,000 cubic metres of rubble, reopening hundreds of kilometres of roads, using recycled rubble to rehabilitate infrastructure, and taking part in tree-planting and volunteer initiatives, as reported by SANA
