Arrests tied to Wadi al-Mawla attack

Syria’s Internal Security Forces have arrested Faez Abbas Akhal and Nasr Mohammad Ghosn on charges of involvement in war crimes and collaborating with institutions of the deposed regime in assaults on civilians in Homs countryside. According to the Ministry of Interior, both suspects admitted during questioning that they joined armed groups affiliated with the ousted regime’s Military Intelligence Directorate in the siege and attack on the village of Wadi al-Mawla in the Tal Kalakh area, an assault that the ministry says resulted in the deaths of 40 civilians, including women and children.

The two detainees have been referred to the Counterterrorism Directorate to complete the investigation and carry out necessary legal procedures before transfer to the competent judicial authorities. The Interior Ministry stated it will continue pursuing officials and members of the deposed regime accused of war crimes, reaffirming its commitment to accountability, transitional justice, and protection of victims and their families, as reported by SANA
