The World Food Programme said a new $800 million contribution from the United States will support life-saving food and relief operations across about 37 countries, helping deliver assistance to more than 38 million vulnerable people. The Rome-based agency highlighted that the funding arrives while it faces mounting demand and increasing pressure on resources.

Funding gap and outlook

WFP warned that declining donations and rising delivery costs have eroded its ability to expand responses, with contributions falling from roughly $10 billion at their peak to about $6 billion, constraining operations. Acting Executive Director Carl Skau said the U.S. support comes at a critical moment as the agency aims to reach some 110 million people this year and needs an estimated $13 billion to sustain core activities amid logistical challenges in regions affected by the war in the Middle East and elsewhere as reported by SANA
